Betty Boone

of Savannah, GA

February 7, 1955 - April 4, 2024

Betty Marie (Spillers) Boone
February 7, 1955 April 4, 2024

Betty Boone, 69, of Savannah, Georgia, formally of Paris, Arkansas passed away April 4, 2024 in Reidsville, Georgia.

Betty was born in Paris, Arkansas, the first of 4 children of G. W. Spillers and Dorothy Maxine (Shelton) Spillers. She was named after her paternal grandmother, Lona Marie (Spicer)(Spillers)(Mainer) Garrett. As the daughter of a U.S. Naval Sailor, Betty grew up moving and living in many states, from coast to coast. After her father's military retirement in 1969, she found herself back in Paris, Arkansas. She became a member of the high school band where she played the clarinet and tenor saxophone. Betty was a majorette and a drum major. She was a member of the Honor Society and on the high school yearbook staff serving as editor her senior year. Betty graduated, from Paris High School in 1973. She received scholarships to the College of the Ozarks (Clarksville, AR) where she continued to play in the band and added singing in the choir. She joined yearbook staff and became editor. Betty graduated with a triple major, in Business Administration, Public Administration, and Accounting. She met her husband, Gordon Lee Boone, during her years at the College of the Ozarks and they were married in the campus chapel on May 14, 1977. Gordon graduated and received a commission as an officer in the United States Army and was posted at several Army bases. After his last assignment, He and Betty settled in Savannah, Georgia and Betty gave birth to Lee Allen Boone, her proudest moment and only child. Being Lee's mother was the greatest joy of her life. Betty worked in many jobs, due to the military life, but her final job was with CAHABA Medical Care. Starting this job in Savannah, the company would then take her from Savannah to Birmingham, AL, back to Savannah, and once again back to Birmingham. She would retire from CAHABA in Birmingham and returned to her home in Savannah, Georgia. Betty was left handed and had several hobbies that included but was not limited to ceramics, crocheting, jewelry making, and being a certified Wilton Cake Decorator. In her younger days, she enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. As a child she would ride on the back of her father's Triumph and would later ride on the back of her youngest sister's (Donna) Harley-Davidson when visiting. She would later serve as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America, for her son. Betty had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. First joining ''Little Flock'' in Paris, Arkansas and then moving her membership to ''Reveille'' in Magazine, Arkansas. Betty liked trying different foods but Asian food seemed to be her favorite. She would often sneak ''shrimp'' back home to her cats from the Chinese Buffett. They would know when she had done so and would try to get in her purse to find their ''treats''. She loved animals and had a variety of cats and dogs over the years. Often rescues or ones found abandoned in a parking lot.

Betty is preceded in death by her father, G. W. Spillers.

She leaves behind her husband of almost 47 years Gordon Lee Boone of Savannah, GA (Hinesville, AR); her son Lee Allen Boone, of Maryland; her mother, Dorothy Maxine (Shelton) Spillers, of Paris/Ft. Smith; her siblings, Eva (Spillers) Spencer of Paris/Van Buren, Donna (Spillers) McKale of Ten Mile, TN and Kenneth Spillers of Paris/Ft. Smith; her dog, Maggie May; three cats, Hicthy, Patty and Sissy; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.

Gordon and Lee, and the entire family you have my deepest sympathy. Betty and I worked together at Cahaba GBA for many years. Betty was a dedicated employee who loved her job. Betty made a way for my family to get a Dalmatian puppy all the way from Arkansas...she was just that type of person when it came to animals. May God comfort you all during this difficult road ahead. Cherish the memories and good times that you all had together.

I did not know Mrs Betty for long. Only from her time in Reidsville at Tattnall Healthcare Center but she was such a sweet soul with an amazing and caring husband.
