April 21, 1921 - January 20, 2024

Elmo Hurst passed from this world on January 20, 2024 at the age of One Hundred Two years and Nine months young. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Nadine (Ott) Hurst. He was born on April 21, 1921 to John Brooksher and Agatha Jane (Jefferson) Hurst. He was the sixth generation of his family who were life-long residents of Marion County, beginning with his great-great-great grandfather, John ''The Pioneer'' Hurst who arrived in Marion County in 1811.

He is survived by a son and daughter: Larry Hurst and wife, Rita of Kimberling City, MO, Sharleen Johnson and husband, Ron of Lee's Summit, MO; four grandchildren: Stacy Patton and husband, Brian of Grain Valley, MO, Amanda Leonard and husband, Josh of Oak Grove, MO, Regina Hurst and Lance Hurst of Kimberling City, MO; four great-grandchildren: Renae Pogue and husband, Drake of Bankston, AL, Mackenzie Patton of Grain Valley, MO, Jarrett and Kaylee Leonard of Oak Grove, MO; four sisters: Betty Doshier and husband, Verl of Yellville, AR, Kathleen Elumbaugh and Jearldine McNeil of Mountain Home, AR, Maxine Bridgman and husband, Stan of Alpena, AR; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Elmo was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Lealon Hurst, Carlis Hurst and Cora Tetrick.

Elmo was a devoted family man, not only to his immediate family, but also to his extended family and friends. In addition to growing excellent watermelons, he was a cattleman, farmer, carpenter and professional fishing guide. He loved bluegrass festivals, fishing and hunting, especially elk hunting in Colorado with his uncles and other family members. He also was a huge Razorback Basketball fan.
He will be greatly missed by family and all those who knew him.

Visitation will be 12:30 - 1:30 pm Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Roller-Burns Funeral Home in Yellville.

Graveside service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Hurst Cemetery in Flippin with Terry Ott officiating.

Pallbearers will be Brian Patton, Josh Leonard, Jarrett Leonard, Larry Blasdel Jr., Doug Parnell, Drake Pogue and Lance Hurst.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Bridgman, Verl Doshier and Rick Smith.

Larry, Rita, Sharleen, Ronnie and families,

You are all in our thoughts and in prayer during this time of sorrow. Our hearts go out to you.

Have lots of good memories of spending time with my uncle Elmo and aunt Nadine. I remember how he laughed and how he teased me when I was a kid. Loved getting to go to their house.

Dear Sharleen, Larry and family, My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and for the days ahead. I have many fond memories of your parents when we were kids. This makes my heart hurt. He was one of the best ........and he grew great watermelons!!!
