Virginia Covington Battles, 85, of Conway, Arkansas went to be with the Lord August 8, 2023. She was born March 9, 1938 to the late George and Fannie Covington. Virginia retired after 35 years at the Arkansas School for the Blind. She was a longtime member of City Church in Conway. Virginia was a loving wife, mom and Nana; she enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything. Virginia also enjoyed camping, shopping, being on her houseboat, traveling on trips with her fellow teachers and being with her closest friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Bobby L. Battles; son, Bobby Lewis Battles Jr. and sister, Mary Jane Moix.
Virginia is survived by her son, Richard (Shonna) Battles; daughter, Cindy Battles Houston; four grandchildren, Erick (Michelle) Rusch, Amanda (Maurio) Woodley, Amber (Jacob) Turner and Sara Battles; eleven great grandchildren, Amauri, Malik, Naia, Ronin, Koa and Sage Woodley; Paisley and Piper Rusch; Sawyer, Sadie and Sophie Turner; brother, George (Janette) Covington and many more family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, August 11, 2023 at 10:00AM at City Church in Conway, Arkansas. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00AM Friday at the City Church with Burial following at Crestlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs Battles was my sixth grade teacher at the Arkansas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. She was a great teacher. She hated for the kids to run up and down the hall past her classroom. We learned social adjustment , proper dress , and manners. Rest in peace.
My sympathy is with her family and friends that she has left behind.
She was a very nice lady who worked hard and she enjoyed her hobbies.

Virginia was a fun person, I really enjoyed fixing her hair taking with weekly. I WILL miss her.
Wow what to say about this wonderful lady.. she was my 6th grade teacher but I also had her when I was in 5th,, Taught me great math skills very strict but helped you understand all your work. My hear out to her family and friends.. Ex student from Arkansas school for the blind.
Virginia and I worked together for several years at ASBVI. I have fond memories of our time together, including the year we were the High School cheerleading coaches. May God give your family strength and comfort during this difficult time and may your memories of her last forever.

Virginia Battles was my co-worker for many years at the Arkansas School for the Blind. She was well respected as a teacher and as a person. I enjoyed working with her and shared some fond memories. Mrs Battles was an awesome teacher, she was my very first teacher at the school for the blind. She was a Christian and wasn't a shame to show it. Thanks to the family for sharing her with us.
Virginia was my third-grade teacher. She was certainly, one of my favorites! I have such fond memories of her and have always held her in high regard! My thoughts and prayers are with her and the family.
Ms. Betos was my sixth grade teacher and one of the best teachers I ever had she actually to get the time to explain the assignments the way that I would be able to get it in she would be deeply missed and I will hold her forever in my heart my prayers are with her biological family and her Arkansas school for the blind family, staff and friends during this difficult time Love you Virginia battles. I've been knowing Virginia battles for a very long time ever since I was about probably 7 years old I started attending Knoxville School for the blind in 1985. Where I'm at Miss battles I was at a long hair little redhead kid she used to always get onto for running up and down the hallways I'm sending prayers for her family and friends rest in peace Miss battles love you. (If I am correct, it was her first year as a teacher there.) She was a very kind lady, and a wonderful teacher. I am grateful for the things she taught me. She will always be remembered.

I'm so sorry for ur lost she was my favorite teacher I had her as a 3rd grade teacher 4th.6th. Our birthday was n the same month so I always brought cake to class for us march people u couldn't ask for a better teach she will be miss I loved ⤠her so

We are so sorry to hear about Virginia Ruth! We are praying for all of you! We love Virginia and will miss her! Virginia stayed with us for a month one summer while Bobby was working in Indiana! We really enjoyed our time together! Jim took her on his motorcycle to get to Bobby at 100 mpr to get her purse from his truck. You should have seen Virgnia's hair when they got back! Joyce We LOVE all of you!
Cindy and Richie, I am so saddened to hear about the death of your mother. Your Mom, Barbara and I were great friends and support to each other at ASB and shared many laugh and tears. The years have kept us apart but I have thought of so often with great love and fondness. I pray that you find peace and strength during this difficult time.
