He was born May 15, 1943 in Fullerton, California to the late Ted Johnson and Evelyn (Hardin) Nikla. After high school Johnny served in the United States Navy for 21 years as a Boiler Tender. During his service, Johnny spent 17 years at sea and retired as a Chief. Johnny married Georgia (Lee) Johnson on May 25, 1967 in Stillwell, Oklahoma. After his military service, Johnny worked five years with the United States Postal Service before fully retiring. Upon leaving the postal service Johnny and Georgia purchased a motorhome and began to travel America. Along their travels they were able to see many of the great sites of America. Of their visits Silverton, Colorado and Alaska, where they stayed five months, were some of their fondest memories of their 15 years of travel. Johnny had many interests throughout his years, some while being stationed throughout the world with his military service and others later in life. Of these interests', scuba diving while stationed in Hawaii and then four wheeling in later years, rose to the top. In addition, Johnny enjoyed white water canoeing on the Mulberry and Buffalo rivers, riding their motorcycle with Georgia, riding dune buggies, riding and caring for their horses and hiking. Along with these hobbies, Johnny was a member of the Family Motorcoach Club (FMCA) and the Four-Wheel Drive Club.

Though Johnny spent his years enjoying many interests, his true joy was sharing his time and activities with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his stepmother, who he considered his second mother, Reba Johnson; a brother, Bob Ward and two sisters, Colleen Counts and Norma Worth.
